Iftar is an Arabic word that refers to a meal eaten by Muslims after sunset during Ramadan. Like in other faiths, the act of fasting is a symbolic gesture – to be one’s best, to be empathic and to call to mind other people’s struggle. In recognition of the religious observance of local Muslim communities, from Somalis to Afghanis, the Iftar event is a wonderful opportunity to break the fast together and to learn more about Victoria’s diverse cultural and faith traditions.
The event will commence at 5pm. A delicious buffet halal meal produced by Bell Street Mall traders will be provided from sundown, with vegetarian options available.
